Hail claims, explained

How a Texas hail claim actually works

Most people have never filed a hail claim. Here's the whole process in plain English: who does what, what to expect from the adjuster, and the red flags that separate honest contractors from storm chasers.

  • You stay in control of your claim
  • We document the damage
  • We meet your adjuster on site
  • Deductible due at completion

Step by step

The six steps of a hail claim

  1. 1

Stay safe and protect the property

Check for active leaks, cover what you can, and photograph interior damage. Keep receipts for emergency tarping or repairs. Most policies expect you to prevent further damage.

  2. 2

    Get a free professional inspection

Before you call your carrier, find out whether there is real, storm-related damage. Our photo report gives you facts, not guesses, and it costs nothing.

  3. 3

Report the claim to your carrier

You open the claim with your insurance company by phone, app, or your agent. Stick to the facts: the storm date and that you have documented hail damage. Write down your claim number.

  4. 4

    The adjuster inspection

Your carrier sends an adjuster. We'll be there to walk the roof with them and show every damaged area so nothing is overlooked in the scope of repairs.

  5. 5

    Review the scope and estimate

Your carrier sends a summary of what they'll pay for. We compare it to our line-item estimate. If code-required items or damaged components were missed, we submit a supplement with documentation.

  6. 6

    Repairs and payment

We schedule the work, usually one day for a roof. Many carriers pay in two parts: actual cash value first, then recoverable depreciation after completion. You pay your deductible at completion.

A note on our role

Texas Insurance Code §4102.163 prohibits contractors from acting as public adjusters or advertising to adjust claims. We're your contractor: we inspect, document, estimate, meet the adjuster to show the damage, and do the work. Coverage decisions are between you and your carrier. If you have a coverage dispute, you can contact the Texas Department of Insurance at 1-800-252-3439, or hire a licensed public adjuster or attorney.

Protect yourself

Storm chaser red flags

After every big hail storm, crews from out of state knock on doors across Central Texas. Some do fine work. Many don't, and they're long gone when the leaks start. Watch for these:

  • Offers to waive, cover, or "eat" your deductible (illegal in Texas)
  • Promises to negotiate your settlement or "deal with your insurance company for you"
  • Asks you to sign a contract or assignment before your claim is even approved
  • Demands a big payment upfront
  • Out-of-state plates, no local address, and gone when the hail season ends

Straight talk

We're your roofer, not your adjuster. That's the point.

Texas law draws a clear line: contractors can't act as public adjusters, and nobody can legally skip your deductible. Storm chasers blur that line. We don't. We bring the evidence and the expertise; you stay in control of your claim.

FAQ

Hail claim questions

Do you handle my insurance claim? +

You own your claim and you file it with your carrier. Texas law doesn't allow contractors to act as public adjusters, so we don't. What we do is everything a contractor can: document the damage, give you a detailed line-item estimate, meet your adjuster on site to show the damage, and send supplements for anything missed in the scope of repairs.

Will you cover or waive my deductible? +

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers. Texas law requires you to pay your deductible, and it's illegal for a contractor to waive or absorb it. We collect it when the job is done, never upfront.

How fast can you get here after a storm? +

Inspections are usually completed within 24 to 48 hours of your call. Right after a big storm, calling early gets you on the schedule first.

How long does a roof replacement take? +

Most residential roof replacements are finished in a single day, weather permitting. We handle cleanup and a final walkthrough before we leave.

How long do I have to file a hail claim? +

It depends on your policy. Many Texas homeowner policies set a deadline, often one year from the storm date. Check your policy and report damage promptly. The sooner it is documented, the easier it is to tie to a specific storm.
